But above all,
in order to be,
never try to seem.
Tucked along the western edges of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood—the center of the art world and home to hundreds of galleries—Hôtel Americano’s 56 rooms inhabit one of the city’s last slices of cool authenticity, a few city blocks where creativity still thrives above all.
A modern approach to the boutique hôtel, travelers will find the Americano’s close proximity to the High Line, Hudson River and newly constructed Hudson Yards—with its architectural and cultural attractions such as The Vessel and The Shed—the perfect launch pad for exploring New York City’s most talked-about sights.
We welcome you to experience our accommodations as a home away from home—whether you’re here for routine business or your very first visit—we’ve created a space where you can be true to yourself (with a New York twist).
Designed by New York-based, Mexican-born architect, Enrique Norten, our ten-story boutique hôtel is veiled in stainless steel mesh that dissolves at night into a diaphanous, glowing curtain. Inside the accommodations, you’ll find a mix of our favorite influences—Latin, Japanese, French and mid-century American—represented in timeless materials and warm minimalism, including hardwood, black glass, concrete and marble. A rooftop deck and plunge pool cap off our wrap-around river-to-skyline views—where everything feels possible.
One belongs to New York instantly, one belongs to it as much in five minutes as in five years.
Bookended by the city’s two most-talked about and recent additions—the High Line and Hudson Yards—we strive to make your stay here both a calm and connected one. You might notice we have no art on the walls despite being in the center of the art world. That’s because we believe New York City provides enough stimulation for our guests; we prefer to be your blank canvas. Whether you’re working from one of our ryokan-inspired rooms or soaking in the energy — and complimentary hyper-fast Wi-Fi — in our communal spaces, we hope your stay is filled with warmth and inspiration.
As a guest of the Hôtel Americano, you will find:
One cannot think well, love well or sleep well, if one has not dined well.
Serving up a mix of French fare with Latin flair, our main dining room—with its soaring ceilings and buzzy, yet serene atmosphere—lets you relish in a quick coffee, power lunch or unforgettable dinner.
Executive Chef Bryan Noury’s progressive take on seasonal and sustainable ingredients has produced a global menu with additional Mediterranean and American influences, all dished up in what locals consider Chelsea’s very own living room.

From November 1 to 19, 2017, performance art organization Performa puts on Performa 17, a visual arts performance biennial that takes over New York City. Read our exclusive Q&A with Performa’s Job Piston and check out the performances! (Info here).
1. What is your on your calendar for New York this week?
We are in the final exciting week of the Performa 17 Biennial – an organization I founded that commissions visual artists to produce live performances, many of them exploring performance for the first time. We are thrilled to welcome the Nairobi-based literary network, Kwani Trust, for a five-day residency at the Performa Hub, Yto Barrada’s live cinema experience at the Connelly Theater for three nights, and as a part of our Estonian Pavilion Without Walls program, artist Anu Vahtra who will lead a tour of SoHo storefronts starting at the Biennial Hub, 427 Broadway, in Soho.
2. What are your currently reading?
I’ve been diving into Teju Cole’s Blind Spot. It’s been fascinating drawing the connections between the mixture of prose and photography in that book and the immersive installation he presented for the Performa 17 commission.
3. What makes your Hotel Americano experience unique?
We stay close to all of the special cultural events. My team and I were out all night for our DADA Halloween party – Best outfits go to the twinning Hugo Ball costumes, co-founder of the legendary Zurich nightclub Cabaret Voltaire in 1916.
4. What is a show one cannot miss in Chelsea today?
Zanele Muholi’s Performa 17 commission on #VisualActivism has been very exciting and her work is displayed all over the city. Her self-portraits are up on massive screens in Time Square at Broadway and 42nd and on the interactive kiosks on the platform of four subway stations. She also has a fantastic show called Faces and Phases at Yancey Richardson, right now.
5. What are the performances to not miss for this 17 Biennial?
There is a lot of excitement building at the Harlem Parish, 258 W 118th Street, where South African artist Nicholas Hlobo will be this Saturday and Sunday – experience his live performance of sewers on stilts high up in the air. A must for visitors staying at the Hotel Americano. Also, this Thursday is the very last opportunity to participate in Barbara Kruger’s Untitled (The Drop). We have plenty of tickets for all the performances so just sign up on our website at http://17.performa-arts.org
We’re proud to announce a new and exciting partnership with MR PORTER, the global online retail destination for men’s style! A curated selection of travel and essential product across clothing, shoes, and accessories which will be available to shop on MR PORTER. Shop now!
